Joanna Wachowiak Owen and Constance Lawrence had the privilege of presenting Ann, the official canine ambassador of Northside Common Ministries, the generous donations from our membership to benefit the Community Food Pantry (final tally was $2,100!). While there, Joanna and Connie had the opportunity to tour the facility and learn about all of the amazing programs and services that are offered, in addition to the pantry. 2018 Award Recipients
Rachel A. Martin
A senior at Mt. Lebanon Sr. High School. She is planning on attending the Sheppard School of Music at Rice University, Houston in the fall where she will pursue a degree in Music Performance. Rachel is working towards obtaining a full time double bass position in a Symphony Orchestra upon graduation.
Highlights of Rachel's bass career include; National Youth Orchestra (2017), Pittsburgh Youth Symphony (2015-2018), Pittsburgh Symphonic Youth Symphony (2014). She will be returning to NYO this year where she will tour Taiwan, China and South Korea.
In addition to her bass career, Rachel also participated in Odyssey of the Mind and has played soccer.
Rachel is most appreciative of the committees consideration and selection and wishes all of the winners tremedous success in the fall.
Parents are Christine and James Martin (Movement Mortgage)
A graduate of Trinity High School in Washington, PA. In the fall, he is planning on attending the University of Pittsburgh, Main Campus in Oakland, where he will pursue a degree in Physical Therapy.
In high school Matthew participated in the National Honor Society, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), German Honor Society and the Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy.
In addition, he is involved in his church's food bank, which collects food for the less fortunate and also help to pack and deliver food for the Washington Food Pantry.
Matthew thanks the scholarship committee for their selection.
Parents are Joyce and James M. Safin (cfsbank). He also has a Sister, Jordan, and dog, Tyson.
A senior at Waynesburg Central High School, Brandon will be graduating Summa Cum Laude in June. He was a member of the golf, basketball and baseball teams.
He will be attending West Virginia University to major in Civil Engineering.
